Wireless technology that enables wireless communication (speech, data) within limited ranges without visual contact between the participating mobile or stationary devices such as PCs, laptops, mobile telephones, digital cameras, USB adapters and similar with data rates up to 1 Mbit/s. The typical range is approx. 10 m at a transmission power of 1 mW. Transmitted data can be encoded with a key that is 128 bits long and manipulation of the dataflow is only possible in the immediate vicinity. Bluetooth technology goes back to a design from Ericsson in 1994.
