What is the recommended motor cable length?
Support » FAQ » Stepper motors
The motor cable should not be extended or be longer than 25 m and must have a minimum cross section according to the current load table. Longer cords can negatively affect the holding torque or the torque (due to the greater time current rise constant of τ = L/RM * RL, the current time area sinks and – proportionally to this – the torque), above all also at higher velocities or speeds.
The cable should be shielded and preferably twisted in pairs. The shield is connected to the PE terminal of the stepper motor positioning control. It is important to make sure the motor cable has a good connection.
