Many drive applications in the tightest of spaces often require individual solutions that could be only be realized so far with a variety of single components. Precise linear movements can now be implemented extremely simply and economically with the new miniature linear actuators of the LSP series from Nanotec. Because of its small dimensions of only 8 mm, it can easily be integrated in very restricted space conditions and consequently often replaces elaborate lever mechanisms.
The miniature actuator offers a pressure or tractive force of 1 N with the smallest of construction volumes and a positioning speed of 10 mm/sec and, with a travel of 12 mm, is eminently suitable even in applications where until now it was only possible to use lifting magnets that exert proportionally smaller positioning forces with increasing transverse path.
The drive is based on a permanent magnet stepper motor with a thread on the shaft so that any rotation is translated into a linear motion. With the simplest control, a resolution < 0.01 mm/step is already possible. The drive is used in preference for automatic focusing systems, for the infinitely variable zoom function in the optics, and for the dosed adjustment, tracking and positioning in medical and optical devices.
The favorably priced and extremely compact SMCI21 2-axis positioning control (50 x 50 mm) with integrated final output stage enables economic adjustment tasks to be realized in the shortest of time with a simple Windows programming interface and, thus, possible approaches to a solution for high quantities to be assessed.
