Stepper motor positioning controller with CANopen - SMCI47-S

The new SMCI47-S-3 stepper motor positioning controller is the consistent further development of the SMCI series, and combines the proven performance data with new features that enable even more flexible use. Through the innovative design of the final output stage, 400 W power (24-48 V, 8 A continuous power, 12 A peaks) with dimensions of only 115 x 80 x 20 mm are possible without additional cooling. The Positioning, Velocity, Interpolated and Homing modes can be used in accordance with the DS 402 standard via the CANopen interface, as well as the 6 wide input range 5-24 V inputs and the additional output for a holding brake. In addition to the conventional stepper motor positioning control with microsteps in the open loop, the ClosedLoop mode offers the possibility of controlling the motor's rotary field like a servomotor using an encoder. In this mode the stepper motor behaves no differently than a high-pole servomotor, i.e. the conventional stepper motor noises and resonances disappear; and up to its maximum torque, the motor can no longer lose steps. This regulation always adjusts the level of the current to the torque currently required so that current consumption and heat generation are considerably reduced compared with a conventional stepper motor. Matching motors with integrated encoder, also in protection classes up to IP65, offer the user a complete, cost-saving alternative to servo systems. Thus, in contrast to conventional servosystems, especially at speeds up to 1500 rpm or torques up to 10 Nm, a direct drive without gears is often possible.
