USB
The SMCI32-1 and SMCI33-1 control systems have a USB connection. Here the full functionality of the positioning control can be used economically with a directly connected standard USB cable.
Note: The associated driver is available for downloading on the product page.
In addition, it is possible to operate all control systems and Plug&Drive motors with RS485 interface via a special converter with USB.
You can find the matching converters and drivers here!
RS485 / RS232
The serial interface can be used to communicate with the controller with the aid of ASCII commands. All functions that can be configured via the NanoPro software are also possible via the ASCII commands. All motor parameters and profile settings such as ramp speed and position etc. can also be set and changed on the fly.
In addition, it is possible for travel profiles to be linked with one another.
RS485 means the positioning controls are network-compatible. Up to 16 stations can be networked. Please note our wiring diagram in the manual as otherwise the positioning controls can be destroyed due to differences in potential. Installation of a USB network with a hub or directly on the PC is only conditionally recommended. For more information, please read our FAQ.
RS485 network
Up to 32 stepper drives can be controlled in a network from a PC or PLC.
These network connections are set up via the RS485 interface.
Connection requirements
- The RS485 4-wire bus is used as a pure master/slave application. All SMCI47-S are connected in parallel as slaves to the bus.
- Up to 32 stations can be operated on the network.
- The length of the connection lines (stub lines) must be as short as possible and should not exceed 5 m.
- To avoid reflections during data transmissions, both ends of the bus line should be fitted with a 120 Ω termination resistor (typical value of the characteristic impedance of a 24 AWG twisted cable) (R1 to R4).
- To ensure a defined quiescent level, the resistances R5 to R8 must be connected permanently to the bus according to the above diagram.
- If a converter is connected between the master and the network, only resistances R3 and R4 are necessary.
- Please note the connection diagram. Non compliance can destroy the output stages.
- Use the ZK-RS485-RS232 converter from Nanotec. Reliable operation cannot be guaranteed with other converters.
If you use the control with CANopen, you can use the additional safety function of the separate logic supply: Even when the voltage supply of the SMCI47-S is interrupted, the processor continues to be supplied with power via the communication line and the position data cannot be lost so that the machine does not need to be referenced after being switched on.
You will find all further information about communication with CANopen on the website.
