BLDC Motor ASB42 – Servo drive with integrated encoder for harsh environments

Nuremberg, 23rd November 2011 – At this year's SPS, Nanotec Electronic GmbH & Co. KG (Hall 4, Stand 582) is presenting the ASB42; its first model in a new product range of BLDC motors with protection rating IP65.

Unlike the non-rated motors, the ASB42 has a housing sealed against humidity and dust and an M16 and M12 connector for power and rotary encoder. Thanks to its high-energy permanent magnets, the 3-phase BLDC motor is ideal for applications where a high level of smooth running and a long service life are required. Depending on the model variant, torques of 0.05 to 0.25 Nm and speeds of 4000 to 14,000 rpm are possible. As with all BLDC motors from Nanotec, the ASB42 also has a high level of efficiency and a strong acceleration capacity.

Precise controls require perfectly functioning encoders that measure rotation. In harsh environments, magnetic encoders are better capable than optical encoders, as with the latter type, dust or humidity may cause measurement errors. This is why the entire ASB product range includes magnetic encoders to ensure precise positioning, even in challenging industrial environments.

With the 4-quadrant SMCI36 motor controller, the ASB42 can be operated via digital or analogue inputs, RS485 or CANopen. For the RS485 interface, Nanotec provides the easy-to-use parametrisation software for Windows, NanoPro, free of charge. For CANopen operation, there is also the free NanoCAN software from Nanotec for parameterisation, or there is the option to integrate the motor into a standard CANopen-Master via the EDS file (electronic data sheet).
