Nuremberg, November 23rd, 2011 – The PD2-N4118 is to be introduced to the public for the first time at Compamed and SPS. The plug & drive stepper motor from Nanotec Electronic GmbH & Co. KG (hall 4, Stand 582) is based on the PD2-O4118 model (open PCB) designed for device engineers but consists of a closed motor with integrated motor controller in the 42 size (NEMA 17) and 50 Ncm holding torque. The motor further integrates the NME4096 magnetic encoder (12-bit) and is also available in an IP version.

In contrast to the PD2-O motor model where the motor controller is fitted on the outside, the PD2-N integrates the control within the housing. The controller features rapid commissioning and offers a variety of options for this size. The motor can either be used in closed loop (field-oriented control) or open loop mode. The closed loop mode is the best choice when it comes to a high level of positioning accuracy, dynamics and energy-efficient operation with reduced motor heating.

Thanks to the field-oriented regulation, the motor no longer loses steps at its max. torque. As the integrated magnetic rotary encoder always delivers an absolute value on a rotation. Regulated operation is active immediately after being switched on, and no reference run needs to be carried out. In common with all other plug & drive motors from Nanotec, the PD2-N4118 works with software-based current regulation based on dspDrive® technology, that ensures particularly quiet running.

PD2-N motors can be actuated via RS485 or CANopen as well as via digital and analogue inputs. Parameterisation is carried out either using NanoPro, a Windows-based software that does not require any programming knowledge, or using platform-independent Java via NanoJ easy. NanoJ easy also allows programs to be created independently from the Master PLC executed directly on the motor; this is particularly advantageous for decentralised applications. The special NanoCAN software program is available for CANopen networks. All parameterisation programs from Nanotec are free of charge.

The possible applications for the PD2-N4118 are many and varied. The PD2-N4118 can be utilised anywhere where precise positioning is required, and an energy-efficient drive is desired. An example of this are dosing applications.
