PD4-N Plug & Drive motors from Nanotec are now available for use in harsh environments
Landsham, 17 January 2011 – With the PD4 models of the Plug & Drive model series, Nanotec Electronic GmbH & Co. KG is aiming for companies that are looking for economical and flexible machinery integration. Now the PD4 motors are also available for use in harsh industrial environments. With their integrated encoder and positioning controller and the quiet running dspDrive, their advantages are crucial in areas where speed, exact positioning and space-saving installations are essential.
These models, which meet the stipulations of protection class IP65, are spray-water protected, resistant to dust and EMC compatible. They are compatible to Plug & Drive motors in other sizes and thus offer developers the opportunity to employ uniform communication and control technology in a mixed environment.
Like all Plug & Drive motors from Nanotec, these models rely on a digital signal processor for current control that implements dspDrive processing and controls the current with a resolution of 12 bits instead of the 6 or 8 bits common in ICs. This considerably increases running smoothness.
PD4-N motors developed to comply with protection class IP65 work both in open loop and ClosedLoop operation where the stator magnetic field is controlled via an encoder. Unlike conventional stepper motors, these motors no longer lose steps and run considerably quieter and smoother. In this way, the ClosedLoop control turns the stepper motor into a multi-pole servomotor. Particularly with rotations up 1500 rpm or, respectively, torques up to 10 Nm, the sinusoidal commutated stepper motor is an economical alternative to conventional servosystems, as – unlike them – direct drive is possible without a transmission.
The PD4-N IP65 Plug & Drive motor can be programmed via the user-friendly NanoPro and NanoCAN Windows software. It supports RS485 and CANopen interfaces.
Plug & Drive motors:
Plug & Drive motors with an integrated controller are ideally suited for economical drive solutions where speed and precise positioning are paramount. Thanks to their compact construction, they offer space-saving implementation and are compatible with standard stepper motors.
Technical data: Operating voltage: 12-48 V Holding torque: 0.5-3 Nm
